Dirleton Kirk Tower
Essential work on the Kirk tower will be undertaken, commencing on Monday 12th May. This is remedial and restoration work on the stone, which is severely weathered and badly in need of repair. The work is expected to take six months.
This will require scaffolding around the tower at the west end of the Kirk, and for safety reasons the main west door cannot be used when it is taking place.
All access during that time will be restricted to the side (‘Archerfield Aisle’) door only, the main west door will be out of bounds.
None of this will affect the interior of the Kirk, or any services or other activities taking place inside, which can continue as normal, it is only the access which will be restricted as explained above.
Thank you for your cooperation. A historic building which is 413 years old needs continual work, and we hope this keeps the Kirk in good repair for worship and other events for many more years to come.
